kitty

[Picture taken in May 2008]

Kitty has been in my family since I was 19, and then W and I took him when we got married in 2004. That's 11 years that this cat has been a part of my life. Before Oliver was born, we decided that Kitty needed a new home. He is old and grumpy and jealous and we didn't think he would do too well with a baby. We were torn about what to do with him - who wants an old, grumpy, jealous cat? I was stressed out about it because I felt like I was the only person in the world he wasn't scared of. Thankfully, my sister-in-law, Britney, and her husband, Ron, offered to take him for us. It was such a relief! They are cat lovers and he is lucky to be there with them and their two other cats in Portland. I miss him but I'm happy he has a new home where he is loved.

baby half off

Have you heard about this site? They have one deal a day, and it's half off. Today's deal is super cute. I follow Amalie's blog and she is incredibly talented. Check out her cute scarves and head wraps here and in her etsy shop here.

this is love

I'm so grateful for such a wonderful husband. Last night I was so tired. W could see this and he suggested that I go to bed, and he stayed up with Oliver all night. I got 8 1/2 hours of blissful sleep. I woke up on my own at 9:30 and was overjoyed. Not only did W tough out the whole night with our little guy, but he did it without power, in the complete dark (our whole block was out of power until 3:30 am). He rocked our little baby and sang hymns to him. I love this man more everyday.

checking in

[One week photo shoot with dad]

Things are going well since our little guy joined us (two weeks ago from tomorrow). He is the sweetest little baby. I still can't believe how early he came but we're glad he's here. [For those interested in his birth story, it is on my pregnancy blog.]

It was so nice having my mom's help for the first two weeks. She made dinner, kept up with the dishes and laundry, held him a lot, went to the store for me several times, and helped with shifts in the night (and took him all night on her last night here). I am a little nervous about doing it on my own. At least W has the next two weeks off of work. My sister and dad are also coming into town this week and I'm excited to spend time with them.

Aside from adjusting to little sleep, trying to nurse / pump, and figure out what cry means what, I am trying to finish up my quarter. It's all a little crazy, but I'm sure we'll get through it.

*introducing oliver*

Samuel Oliver Schultz was born on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 4:26 am. He weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. We are completely in love with him and we're so excited that he is a part of our little family.
