good reads

So a friend of mine recently asked me for book recommendations and I thought I would just share here in case someone else is looking for a good book to read this summer. I read all of these books last summer so it's been a while but here is my list:

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
This mystery is a page-turner. It was a little slow for me in the very beginning but then I loved it. It's a really fun read.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
This book is a bit sad but also intriguing. I thought it was excellent and really enjoyed it.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
This is an interesting and thought-provoking book that makes you think about the lives you touch and are touched by.

For One More Day by Mitch Albom
This is a book about perspective, second chances and a relationship between a mother and son. It is powerful and touching.

The Other Boleyn Girl
by Philippa Gregory
I can't really recommend this book because it contains some parts that are offensive (a lot of detailed sex) but I will say that the writing is excellent and I like that it is historical fiction.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
This is a wonderful story about following your dreams and finding out who you are. It is different than any other book I've read, which is why I liked it so much.

The Message by Lance Richardson
This is an account of a man's near-death experience. It is written by a Christian (LDS) man and is just really beautiful. I loved it so much, I bought it for many of my family members for Christmas last year.

Escape by Carolyn Jessop
This is about a woman who was raised in the FLDS faith. I thought it was fascinating.

Next on my list:

The Secrets of a Fire King by Kim Edwards

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Masquerading as Angels by Lance Richardson and Bruce Miller

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

The Secret Life of Bees by Susan Monk Kidd

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

Stolen Innocence by Ellisa Wall

Do you have any more for me to add to my list?

cards and books

[The first card was removed for publication.]

Just stopping in to share some cards I made the other night. I couldn't sleep (because it was so hot...this coming from an Arizona girl...but at least there everyone has AC! I still find it surprising that AC is a rarity here in Washington) so I got out of bed and put together these cards. They are super simple. I like to have cards on hand so I don't have to throw them together at the last minute.

I had a scrapbook night on Friday night. I have some pictures I want to share from that, as well as what I made (or started to make...I didn't get too far) but I have to wait until my computer is working a bit better.

I just finished One More Day by Mitch Albom last night. I liked it. It was a really quick read with a good message. There were lots of good one-liner quotes that I found very meaningful and wanted to copy down.

Has anyone else read any good books lately? I am all about reading non-required books this Summer. Others on my list: The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards, The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom, and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I also want to read Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall (about her experiences growing up in a FLDS Polygamist sect, as well as Escape by Carolyn Jessop, which is supposed to be a similar account). I would love to hear feedback about these books if you have read them or any other good books you have read. Enable me!
